Optimized Operating Conditions for a Biological Treatment Process of Industrial Residual Process Brine Using a Halophilic Mixed Culture

Residual process brine is a sustainable raw material for chlor-alkali electrolysis processes. This study investigates the influence of critical parameters on performance continuous treatment residual using halophilic microorganisms. The goal bioprocess an efficient degradation organic impurities formate, aniline, phenol, and 4,4′-methylenedianline from this stream. It was shown that formate could be degraded with high efficiencies (89–98%) during process. observed influenced by co-substrate glycerol. lowest concentrations were achieved specific glycerol uptake rates 8.0–16.0 × 10−3 g L−1 h−1 OD600−1. Moreover, triple-nutrient limitation glycerol, ammonium, phosphate successfully applied cultivations. Furthermore, it all aromatic efficiency 100%. Ultimately, proposed optimized operating conditions, allowing organics in under various conditions. Future optimization steps will require strategy to prevent accumulation potential intermediate products formed at aniline feed increase liquid dilution system achieve higher throughput brines.
